Food - Part 2

Evening meals are usually between 6-8pm. This is a good time to interact with your homestay family. Make sure to let your homestay family know by phone or text message as soon as possible if you will not be home for dinner. If you are home late for dinner your meal will be reheated for you.

Australian meals have a variety of international influences. Inform your homestay parent about food dislikes and allergies. You may ask to go with the host family when they do food shopping so you can suggest some things that you like. It is common for Australian families to buy food for the week and freeze them for later use.

Take an active interest in how your homestay family prepare their evening meals. Offer to assist with preparing meals and if you like cooking you can offer to cook the family a meal from your cultural background.
