Have approximately A$200-A$300 in cash when you arrive and do not carry large sums of money on you or in your luggage.

Arrange a bank card with your financial institution before leaving home. You will need to set up a bank account in Australia.

When you open a bank account you must bring your passport and visa with you. If you are under 16 years of age, your parent or guardian must accompany you to the bank and show their driver's licence or passport.

After you open a savings account you will be issued with an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card. You can use this to get money from ATMs or use your ATM card to pay for goods purchased.
